Features
Ig POWER simply indicates that the antibody has been derived from egg yolk. The major serum antibody, IgG in chickens, is transported to the egg, and gives immunity in a manner similar to the placental transfer of IgG in mammals.
IgY is the avian homologue of mammalian IgG. Typically, rabbits are bled every 2 weeks yielding 15~20ml of serum, whereas chickens may lay 12~15 eggs during the same 2-weeks period. Therefore, antibody production in chickens can be 15-20 times of that obtained in rabbits.
Antibody concentration in the egg yolk is higher than what is found in chicken serum. This high concentration of antibodies is presumably used to confer passive immunity to newly hatched chicks. Specifications
